A conversation with Betty Masciocchi about stewardship

posted: November 18, 2014

Betty and her parents joined MTPC in 1944 shortly after moving to Portland from Montana. She has been a faithful  member for nearly 70 years, served multiple terms as a deacon, and worked 13 years as church financial secretary. Her late husband Toni was also a deacon and he was responsible for installing & maintaining the sound system. She remembers him and his service to the church, “Toni gave a lot. He had a way of connecting with people.”

What drew Betty to the church? “When I walked in it felt so warm and so homey. I thought to myself, this is the place I want to be.”

What does stewardship mean to Betty? “My parents never had a lot of money, but they always set a portion aside to support the church. When I was the financial secretary, I could see how much it took to make the place run. Everybody needs to do their share.”
