We begin the season of Lent by committing our intentions for the next 40 days to God. There will be the opportunity to be marked with ashes on your hand or forehead, or to quietly sit in prayer. The ashes express our intention to walk with Jesus in the suffering of his final days, and to shape our lives with his own heart of compassion. We receive the ashes, just as we receive our lives from God, just as we receive from God the grace and courage to live lives of compassion.
